Las Vegas 2012
The Las Vegas indoor competition is held each February.
It is one of the high-profile international competitions
and one of very high pressure.
The competition is conducted over three days, with 30
arrows shot each day at a distance of 18 metres. A normal
indoor target face is used, and larger arrows, and with
the compounders using the normal 10 ring rather than the
X ring. A perfect score is 900.
A number of Archery Australia members have done very well
indeed this year.
Karina Marshall shot in the Freestyle Unlimited Championship
Female division, dropped only two points over the three
days and finished second in the event.
Ryan Tyack shot in the Recurve Championship Male division,
scored 879 from 900 and finished third in the event.
Sten Nigol shot in the Freestyle Unlimited Flights division,
dropped only one point over the three days and finished
third in the event.
In the very competitive Freestyle Unlimited Championship
Male division Michael Brosnan dropped only one point and
finished 43rd. Pat Coghlan dropped just three points and
finished 69th. (18 archers had perfect scores over the
three days in that division.)
Both Ryan and Michael are local SQAS archers from the
Sunshine Coast Archery Club and Mount Petrie Bowmen (Belmont)
respectively.

2012 Junior Nationals - Dave's
Report
Hi Clubs,
Please find attached the report from the Youth Nationals
held in Armidale in January 2012 where the SQAS team in
Dave's words "did us all proud".
I wholeheartedly repeat this accolade.
I would also like to thank Dave Sutton who did so much
as Juniors Coordinator in the lead up throughout 2011,
and the team management (Dave, Tim, Paul and Michael)
who put their hart into looking after the SQAS juniors
in Armidale, and to Keith Manssen the SQAS Regional Coach
for helping to get the team ready.
The SQAS team did really well with overall placing, Recurve
team 3rd, and Compound team 3rd, which are very commendable
achievements against the size of some other states.
We achieved 22 individual medals and 3rd place Female
Compound Best All Round and 1st place Female Recurve Best
All Round.
Please distribute the report widely and encourage your
youths to consider preparing for the next Youth Nationals.
We are very seriously considering offering to hold this
in Brisbane mid 2013.
Dave Sutton as SQAS Juniors Coordinator working with Keith
Manssen the SQAS Regional Coach will be looking expand
the squad of youths who are interested in working to the
goal of representing SQAS. Along with the existing youths
who have been attending training sessions throughout the
past year we will have a very strong team for 2013.
Cheers

RISK
Please find attached a presentation
re the harmonisied WH&S legislation in Australia which
I got from QSport just before Christmas and which comes
into effect on 1 January 2012 which applies to clubs.
I also have attached the current SQAS risk management
documents.
The SQAS Risk Register and supporting material is the
template that SQAS has recommended in the past that clubs
review and modify to suit their individual situation.
Please come back to me if you have any queries or comments
or suggestions for improvements.
I recommend that you involve your members in a review
process, and do an audit of your club, as a way of being
able to demonstrate meeting your obligations of the WH&S
act.

To clarify the Selection
Procedure for the 2012 World Field for Youth competitors.
The procedure was recently updated to allow Cadets to
submit qualifying scores shooting from Cadet Field pegs.
The Archery Australia Field Committee have confirmed that
selection for the Youth Team Members will determined from
scores shot at the 2012 National Youth Championships,
but selection will only be made from scores shot by athletes
shooting from their appropriate World Archery Junior division
pegs. That is Recurve and Compound (Red Pegs) and Barebow
(Blue Pegs).
I hope this clears up any confusion.
